Active transportation for Canada. Now!
FOR DECADES a movement has been building in this country in support of walking, cycling, and other forms of active transportation. Today, we have a window of opportunity to make major gains.
Canada's federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, has signalled her enthusiasm for developing an active transportation strategy. At the Minister's invitation our alliance of walking, cycling, and active school travel organizations has submitted a joint proposal to undertake strategy development. But funding has yet to be secured.
It's time for champions of AT to raise our voices in support of a bold strategy that will get us where we want to be: a nation in which walking and cycling are practical, convenient, safe, enjoyable. A nation which supports active transportation for everybody: our young, seniors, women, men — everybody.
